Hi all! This is my first flock and I'm loving the experience. I helped my Grandma 40 years ago so remember some aspects of raising chicks and am feeling comfortable with it all thus far.

That being said, my flock consists of 31 ten-week old Buff Orpington's. I am having a very hard time trying to figure out their sex. There are many articles here about this but they are about baby chicks.

Can anyone give me advice on what to look for? Here are a few pictures. I thought maybe having several birds in a picture would be helpful to make comparisons. Thsnks in advance!

What to look for- cockerels will develop shiny pointed saddle feathers while pullets are round and the same texture as the rest of the body. This also happens at the neck. Cockerels have pointed neck feathers and hens have round. Sometimes roosters have thicker legs but this varies from bird to bird. Cockerels tails will begin to curl downwards and are usually pointed. This also can vary depending on breed. I’ve had hens with tails that slightly curl. Cockerels combs and wattles will also be redder and larger than hens at early development. Hope this helps.
