Sexing Easter Eggers

I have had sucess feather-sexing broody-hatched Easter Eggers. The best time to do it is when they are 24 hours old. I suggest feather-sexing your new chicks (even wing feather lengths are male, offset are female.) Record your results, and in about 6 weeks you will know if they were feather-sexable.

By around 6 weeks age, the boys will show splotchy feather patterns and often red feathers over their wings.

A pea comb with 3 rows usually suggests male while a single pea row is female, but there are always exceptions.

They are adorable!

Thank you! That helps so much!

1, 2, and 3 all have offset wing feathers. 4 and 5 are a little hard to tell, but they aren't yet 24 hrs. They won't be until tomorrow morning, so I will check again then. Since 1 has a three row pea comb (or buttercup), but offset wing feathers, is it still suspicious? It is just over 24 hrs, closer to 30ish.

Okay, this is No. 3, this one is suspect because of its comb, but its hard to tell from the wings. One wing looks more offset than the other, but the in the second picture, that wing looks kinda even. Any thoughts?

Ok, they are all about seven weeks old. (They were a staggered hatch, so the youngest is four days younger than the oldest.) I was told that I should be able to tell at six weeks. I've been too busy to look, so I'm a week late. Obviously, a week late isn't going to hurt, if anything it'll help.

Yes, we already named all of them. If one's a roo, we'll just change it. Actually, we'll eat it, but we always name them anyway so we can keep track of them. (We had a rooster named Chili because we planned to eat him. He was put in white chicken chili! 😂) I really hope No. 1, No. 5, and No. 7 are girls. I want all of them to be girls, but I love the red and brown colors best.

Number 1 is for sure a cockerel. Numbers 2, 3, and 4 are also looking like cockerels. Number 6 looks like it may be a slower developing cockerel, but I'm on the fence. Both numbers 5, and 7 are pullets.

Post updated pics of 2, 3, 4, and 6 in two more weeks.
