I have a hen sitting on some eggs. 11 out of 12 are viable (based on candling). I want to find out as soon as possible if some of them are roosters. The chicks will all be Easter Eggers—both daddies and all the hens are Easter Eggers. I have no clue what all is involved in their breeding; a friend gave them to us for free. I heard that wing sexing does not work with certain breeds, so I am going to assume that with Easter Eggers it will not work because of the amount of variety in them. What are some other good ways of telling with very young chicks (if any)? If not, I do know how to tell from feathers when they are older, I would just like to know sooner.

I can tell by comb size and color for my wyandottes ones that hatch with a blacker comb tend to be pullets compared to ones with a pinker comb

Okay, five of eleven chicks have hatched. I'm having a bit of trouble telling by the combs. I keep second guessing myself. These babies are all between 28-hrs-old, or a little less. Does anyone, but specifically Poultrybonkers, have any thoughts who's a boy and who's a girl?

(I love No. 3 and No. 4's eyeliner!)

Possibly 2 but I can almost quarentee number 3 is a cockerel rest look like pullets

Thank you! I actually thought 3 was a girl, but when I was taking the above pics, I realized that his comb was a bit bigger than the others. I'm glad that 4 is a girl, because I love her coloring the best. I think I can use these five to compare the coming six, but I might end up posting them for confirmation. Any specific leanings for 2, or is it 50/50?

Comb looks kinda wide in it is why I think it could be male what combs do they have? Are they all single?
