Sexing eggs!

I did measure but really only to be sure that I was taking the best 50%. If I take less I can probably do it just by eye. My last hatch was just by eye because I picked them out of the farm shop, I didnt get a very successful hatch though and only have three out of the six. Out of those three its looking as though I have two males, which is a bit of a set back for this theory/hypothesis, but they are still only 8 weeks so I may be mistaken. I wont be doing any more hatches until january and then my first will be ducks. i'm not so sure that it works so well with ducks; I have had 50% of my duck hatches male but thats based on only 10 ducks. I will keep an eye on it next year. Overall this year I have had very positive results by just setting round eggs.

3/6 is a really small sampling. But, keep those stats handy. In the spring, we'll revive the experiment, or myth buster... and have more data to work with. The more telling numbers would be with larger hatches that have a higher hatch rate. B/C, there's no telling the gender of those DIS chicks, unless they are sex linked. Makes me want to set an other batch of Dom eggs so I can have some more cuckoo patterned birds to make more sex links. I love being able to gender id a chick straight out of the shell!

Wow, great thread! Wish I had seen in the beginning. So I couldnt read all pages but am assuming since thread still going that this experiment has had positive results?
I didn't read all 20 pages but I have checked in from time to time.
Since this has been going on for several months, I'm expecting people have some results. Does anyone know of someone in this thread proving the effectiveness?

I'm in the middle of it. The first three broodies hatched 23 live chicks. At an early assessment given that the oldest of these chicks are 14 days old, there are quite a few males. These were from randomly selected eggs. Since I joined this thread the eggs that I originally photographed and posted are hatching as I write this. The next lot are due next weekend and I have a further 40 (ish) in the incubator. All of these are selected eggs. So I will post so results come in.

To start? No on the humidity. Have you calibrated your thermometer and hygrometer? 99.5 for incubator with a fan. I think it's 101 - 102 for incubator without a fan. You'll need to check that. Recommend dry incubation with humidity 30 - 35% days 1 - 18 then bump up to 60 - 65% for lock down. Please read Hatching eggs 101 before you even plug in that incubator! It will save you a lot of grief, and perhaps even make the difference between a failed and a successful hatch.
