Sexing Peachicks - India Blues

I've been on this site for a whole day now and so many people have helped me out! I really have no clue how to do much with these guys (I show horses, and live on a dairy). But they were brought to this world by poor means, and i refuse to let them live that way. So I'm the new mom to these three darling India Blues (from what I'm told). Sheldon, Penny and Leonard are 4 wks old and I was wondering if anyone could help sex them...

Leonard was a little shy and didn't want to leave my hand. He had a rough start so he's the smallest of the three.





Penny loved the camera. Sweetest little pea in the group, always watching over Leonard.





Sheldon... He's just special. Largest of the 3, peeped in his egg for a whole day till Penny hatched first, very nosey and talkative. The first picture he's mad at me as I made him stay on the box, he was having more fun flying and perching on me!

It is still a bit early to be sure, at this point i could say all boys there but the females barring will fade out the next two months and you can be sure with IB's.
Very healthy looking peas, you done them right.

I think I'm going to make this kind of a weekly post. Put up pics of the pea-kids to see how they grow, and change. But again if anyone can tell what sex they are.... greatly appreciated. We are on week five and I've yet to take more pictures!! However the pea's had their first adventure with treats... apples bad, lettuce yummy!

with my kids i could tell a difference around week 6 sometimes its difficult to tell in pics but if any are hens you will start seeing subtle changes.
they will start getting in plain looking feathers. and their wings at the bottom(when you pull them out) will be brown where as the boys will be an orangish brown .

keep an eye on them. sometimes it seems like the changes come about suddenly. or we just all of a sudden notice the difference

Well many first for the 3 pea's this week. Moved to a bigger new home, once they got settled the trainer chickens left, and an outdoor adventure. Leonard would prefer never to be outside again he hid next to me the whole or perched on my chair. Sheldon and Penny adventured, talked, and snacked on grass and little buggies they found! Here's 6 week pics, any more folks have input on what they are? 2 have started to get blue/green tipped feathers around their necks.

Penny really wanted the lettuce I had... plus it helps she loves the camera!










Sheldon was all about pictures too, less excited about treats but didn't mind the snacks!

Anyone? Any thoughts? Any pictures for reference to changes? Tips? Sheldon and Penny are starting to get blue/green neck feathers! Leonard is almost caught up in size too!! Last night I was cleaning the pen and they all decided they were tough and started showing their tail feathers. Too cute, decided to let them out to play and they thought they were very fancy in front of the mirror.

I have one Peacock and three Peahens.....they are just too entertaining and you are going to enjoy everything about your beauties except the need to perch on a car....LOL Your little babies are so luck to have ended up with a loving home. I worry more about ours then they worry about themselves....always trying to get them to go to bed in the coop.....when they really like to perch in our Mullberry tree. I had forgotten how truly adorable the wee ones are....look at those lovely eyes and you can just see how very intelligent these beauties are! Ours are just 3 and lay eggs this year but choose poorly to lay out in the sticks away from home....It stormed during their setting stage and it went badly...next year their hatching pen will be ready along with habitat to make them feel safe. I just have to figure a way to keep fire ants from moving in....they are such a problem. I have been putting boiling water on the nests as they pop up and have killed several hives of ants...will keep it up till winter. Good luck with your beautiful birds.....if you have a Peacock...wait till they get their color! wow!

The farm has a pair... not social... stuck in a pen... the Mrs. laid 4 more eggs which i had to hide from the owner. I now have these 3 and 2 little ones. I love having them, I never realized how quickly they get their own personalities. For having no experience raising these little buggers I'm proud how they are turning out. I feel like a mom! Now that they are bigger they are trying to show me they are independant yet fly at me or cling when scared. I'll have to post a picture of the 2 new little ones, they are already characters!

Oh you are so THEIR MOM!!! again they are lucky they found you no matter what....enjoy you have 40 years of happiness ahead of you. Peafowl live along time if kept healthy. I want more of them.....There are so many incredible colors, however I hear the Indian Blue stick around much better.
