Sexing Peachicks - India Blues

ok i have no memory, they had some barring. is this enough to tell?

Houdini 6.5 weeks - see barring around neck that only disappeared with color that come in but not on the back. never any on back. idk why this is underlined sry.

George 6.5 weeks - same as houdini well a little on his back.

all 3 at 8 weeks

9 wks good pict of necks. this is where those white spots showed up. any ideas on those?

they're 13 wks now but i don't have any good back of the neck picts :(

well here's houdini last night 13 weeks, but not really clear, the dog spooked them. can't even see the color good. but only barring at base of neck by Audrey's fingers, its copper colored :)

and just to be clear, the barring that was there only went away when the colored feathers replaced them. they never faded... does that make sense? i hope so :)
Houdini is a Houdina and George is actually a Georgette. Both are females

9 WEEKS OLD!!!!
So I've finally got the guts to commit to saying they are all boys. Please tell me if I am wrong or looking at the wrong things here. I'm going to post pictures and my reasons for saying they are boys. (correct me if I'm wrong!) Random question - If they are boys will the white chest feathers change out to blue? Or what is it? All 3 have white chest and bellys.
This is Leonard... The barring on his shoulder and chest are more defined. On his wings the barring has changed, but hasn't disappeared. Over his back the barring is still there, he has darkend up, but the barring is still defined.

Penny... Who's going to need a new name... Probably Pendelton! Haha
But again... Barring - Shoulder, less over the top than the other two but still there, and wings. Even as little fluffy tail feathers! Lots of green all the way down the neck too!

Finally Sheldon...
Loads of barring, biggest and chattiest, loves to fan and dance for me and the dog. Has tons of green coming in, and fluffy tail feathers!

10 wks... Pen and Leonard went to their new home today, Sheldon is very upset, even using his big kid voice. Luckily his trainer chicken is there to help him.

Anyone want to place bets on my wee peas? Funny thing is, I feel like they never looked like the fist three when they hatched. Even now I notice they are different from each other!

When you said I'd know when I had them together I thought you were nuts. But wow do they look so different (pics are def hard to see the color) They will be 4 wks tomorrow.

Peyton

Penelope

The two together you can really see the size and color difference...

Kids,,ya give'em books and give'em more books and all they do is look at the pictures,,ha-ha!! But that's how ya learn, yes? Around 6 weeks I can start noticing a diffrence between males and females that are straight IB,,especially when looking across their backs with their tails closest to you looking forward to their necks.Hens will seem a tone or two darker in dun-brown color because their barring is disappearing on their covert wing feathers, thus looking more all a blurr in one color.I've stared at my newborn peas so much this summer I'm going cross eyed but thats how we notice the seemingly insignificant changes that occur.Bronze are the same way as IB from my observations and I would think any barred wing pattern bird would also show the change as well. Most everything I have here is Black Shoulder and they are a dead give away at about 3 weeks of age.
Your last pic above you can see the hen on the left is slowly giving up her barring where the male on the right still has very distinct lines easily visible.Even in his short tail feathers.

That seems to be the only way we learn these days.

But it was hard trying to picture in my mind what everyone was saying without seeing it. Seeing it in person made me feel stupid.
At first I thought these guys had freaky genetics because they didn't look like the first 3 at all. Then Peyton (my big boy), started looking more and more like the big peas. Where Penelope is very petite, I wouldn't say her color has changed much in the 4 wks. Just a little over her back got darker. But wow next to each other its very obvious, even to the clueless kid! Good thing these guys weren't complicated colors! Though when I buy a house I may have to get some more fun ones!

If you set them side by side like I did in post 47,48,and 49,,thats when it's easy to notice.Pull the wings out and just study the covert feathers,,forget about looking at the flights as they will be the same colors with either sex when an adult. But now for me anyway the common barred lines on males stands out.If you can still see a solid line for barring on the wings,,at 6 weeks. It would be bad if you had all males and kept looking for these changes to happen to seperate the sex,
