sexing peachicks

Here goes...

If I was to guess, your B/S is going to be a girl. No dark feathers on head or neck thus far. The pieds, I think George is a girl also, those feathers are coming in solid....you might have to rename her Georgina :-). Houdini I say girl b/c of the brown feathers on her back are not barred but those still might be the baby feathers so I'd hold off on that guess. The way you described George's personality way back made me think girl but now I see her coloring, I think it's safe to say girl.

Glad to have a new peafowl person on the forum :-). Make sure and keep us posted on their progress.
Thank you :)

the one pict of poppy looks like little to no barring so best guess at this point girl? and pipper has tons of barring - so boy? lucky you!!!
lol you have them backwords.
piper is a girl she has dark brown wint feathers
and poppy is the boy . his wing feathers are bright orange

i plan to post updated pics as much as possible =)

I noticed from your pics country girl your birds have Java Green heritage in them, you can tell by how pointed up their crests are in some of those pics...I don't think it means much but just thought I'd let you know

hows that?
ive seen their parents and have talked alot with the guy as to what is in their backgrounds?
their crests still have the feather sheeths on them at the bottoms .. but to me they look just like every other peachicks?

Okay you just made me count LOL but picture #'s 1, 12, 15, 16, 18 are all screaming Java Green, unless they were having a bad hair day. The tannish pied one "youngest of the quad" is the exception.

ETA: Hopefully someone can 2nd my opinion (or tell me I'm dead wrong).

piper (picture #1 )
has had a funny crest since it came in. but her and the other IB are siblings.

and both pied are from the same place, i know his peacocks very well and there is no green blood in that flock. its a flock of pieds, whites, and cameos. and he has gotten them from good breeders.
but i guess with piper and poppy there is always the chance.

their parents are split to black sholder, pied, and something else.
i got purple chicks from their eggs and a pied (who died)

So i just wanted to post picts i took last night = All 8 weeks old now. tried to catch the green/blue color on Houdini and George but the picts don't do them justice. Midnight still doesn't have any black on her neck so i'm going to agree that she's now officially a girl :) Still not sure on the other two.. as noted before they don't have barring on their backs, but i don't think they ever did, so they're not loosing it it was never there... i think :) who knows. i just like taking picts of them. oh and a pict of their new big temporary home, till we feel they're old n big enough to free range.

George's green best pict i could get - but so much more in real life.

Our ham Houdini only one that loves pictures

Houdini's green from side

Houdini's green from top

Midnight Close up - she hates the camera so Audrey has to hold her for a good pict.

Good pict of midnight.

And their new temporary home :) i think thats big enough.

Do anyone elses still not have feathers completely on their heads? they have some but not all. midnight i think has the least her head is still really yellow/fuzz. i just want them to be warm enough at night. Triing to teach them to go inside at night, so we put them in the horse trailor at night. i think they're getting it. Hope everyone had a great weekend :)
