Yep they would be sexlinked and if your Cuckoos are dark egg laying stock ( as some hatchery Marans eggs are no darker than some regular breeds) then you should get some dark eggs out of them too.

Aloha,

I just wanted to post a couple photos:

My Sex-linked Rooster (still alive) from EE Red Roo X Barred Rock Hen (Sorry no pics of the Roo but his son looks exactly like dad. I want to get more of the mom she is a Granny now)

What was produced:

He is Hetero. Barred and has a Beard (only one out of the boys, 3), He was also bigger than his Father.
This is Cuckoo..

His sisters, (none left) were all Black with some having some red in the neck (without bearding, all laid green eggs)
Here is Cocola...

I want to continue more sex-linking but I need to get more Barred Rock hens. But I may just have to go with my Game Cuckoo birds till then. But I will wait till the weather is better.

I want to show everyone what I produced when I took a Black Sex-Linked Roo X EE Hen

This is Tiny:

This is Easter:

Here is what I got:

Not the greatest quality (Camera phone) but I need to go take more photos.
They are 100% siblings and what I got, from the two eggs that I hatched!

The Roo looks like dad in marking but what looks like molting on the breast and Pea comb. (I will get more pics soon).
I present T.J. (Tiny Junior)

The hen from this cross looked like a sex-linked hen with a Beard and she lays Brown eggs!
I present Estrah...

Tiny and Easter had other kids. Tiny has another daughter from another EE hen and she is a Monster. She, I swear, is as tall as her dad. Tiny, when strutting his thing, came a little over my knee at the comb. So when she grew I was in shock! But I digress, lets get back to the thread. I love sex-links too!

Hope you like my birds!

Yes, that would make sex-link chicks. I could be wrong, but my understanding however is that you would dilute the chocolate egg gene, so the hens from this cross would lay dark brown eggs, not chocolate. Like RAREROO said, hatchery Marans usually lay a slightly darker egg than normal brown, but not the chocolate eggs. To get chocolate eggs you need to get them from a good breeder.

What you could try if you want sex-link chicks that lay very dark eggs, is crossing a Wheaten Maran, Welsummer, or Barnevelder rooster with Cuckoo Maran hens.

Or if you're trying to make sex-link chicks that are great layers of very dark brown eggs, sorry, but it ain't gonna happen. The reason the eggs get so dark is because they go through the brown egg coloring part of their egg factory so many times to get recoated over and over, which limits how many eggs the hen can lay.

Thats what i was wanting to know, thank you all!!! im getting a new cokoo marans today and i think im going to put her in with my RIR rooster, my Black Copper Marans are still fuzz butts

Lily and Gamma with their new boyfriend Glow-boy (I'm not allowed to have a real rooster, according to my parents. Glow was a gift from my grandfather)

You gotta love sassy chickens. I was taking fall pictures and I put Flutter on top of a pumpkin. It was the only place I could make her stay still.

Flutter ran away right after I took this picture. She didn't want to stay still- she wanted to scratch with her flock, where she was before I plucked her for the photo shoot. Hence her muddy beak.

BTW, this post is very pic-heavy. Just in case you haven't noticed.

Wow! That's funny and great birds!

Where'd you get them?

Meyer Hatchery. Gold Sexlinks

I have some eggs in the bator.

BLRW rooster over Light Sussex hens.

Has this combo been named by anyone? Has anyone examples of the chicks?

Not that I know I know of but it should be a really neat cross. They should be rose combed, the pullets should be black tailed and blue tailed columbian with maybe some indication of lacing, and the same with the roos but they would have the typical Yellow/Gold on Silver color of sexlink males. Please make sure to post pics.

I will post pictures. I am considering selling these here in our small area as day old sex links. Now I just need a name for them.
