Hey everyone! I ordered 10 BSL and 15 production reds from hoovers hatchery... they're gonna be delivered on February 25th. I'm so excited I've always wanted to get sex link chicks! I got blacks cause I've read that the reds are not as hardy ans the blacks. Anybody tried the reds in colder climates like mine??? Also has anybody ordered from hoovers hatchery before?? They seemed nice on the phone.

And!! I earned all the money for these chicks from selling eggs for eating from my mixed flock. And selling chicks and hatching eggs on craigslist from my BLRW. So I guess you could say my chickens are buying me more chicks!

I am in MN and the Red Sexlinks take the weather just as well as my Black Sexlinks. It would depend on what the Red Sexlinks are made up from, mine are RIR+silver factor dominant white White Rocks. For my Black Sexlinks I have BO+BR, RIR+BR, and mutt red rooster+BR.

Ok thanks. In your opinion do sex links lay better then their parent stock? I belive I'm getting a RIR over BR hens. I've got BRs and I'm not all that impressed with their laying. I need lots of eggs cause I sell them on craigslist... but I need a more friendly bird for my 4 kids...

Not necessarily, BRs in my experience have been great layers but I'm sure there are some that are not. BSLs are bred to lay well so yours should.
