a friend planning to hatch some eggs wants to know what would the outcome be w/ a RIR roo bred to a Red Sexlink hen be?

The result of using a full Red roo over 1/2 red hens (RSL) would produce 3/4 red chicks. Most would likely be red with some errant specks and spots of white and or black here and there. Mutts, but likely a very good egg layer.

Fred's Hens :

They will all be red. if the hen has white in her tail and neck, then half will be white tailed reds and half black tailed reds. All of the white tailed reds will be heterozygous for dominant white. Half will be homozygous for mahogany and half will be heterozygous for mahogany.​
