I just hatched black copper Marams (well, only 1/6 hatched) and I believe she is a pullet. However, I keep getting mixed signals from "her". Since I have no other BCM to compare her to, I'm afraid of getting attached only to have to give her up.Can anyone help me?
1. She will be two weeks old on Mother's Day and her wing feathers (including wing bows, I think) are coming in.
2. She was.born showing a comb but it has shown no sign of turning red or even pink. It is still yellow/brown.
3. I tried the " paper airplane test." She ducked twice, scattered twice and stood up straight twice.
4. She seems to care for the other two chicks who are four days yohnger than her. I can't tell if it's protecting like a rooster or nurturing like a hen.
5. Her tail is growing out and feathering quickly.
6. Her legs appear to be shorter and stouter than I would have expected. But she is a French BCM so I wonder if the feathered legs just make them seem stouter. Also, since I have none to compare her to, I'm just not sure what "short and stout " means for an FBCM.
Any advice or help would be appreciated.
