shade house turned into peacock flight pen

LOL
I use to raise them years ago and don't be fooled they are excellent flyers. Mine got to free range from around Sept to March and they would to to the other end of the pasture then when they say me they would come flying. There flights would be every bit of 300-400 yards.

My neighbor had one that followed her around like a puppy. When she and her cousin roofed her home, the peacock flew up there and when they would nail down a shingle, he would walk over to it and peck on it! That was 20 years ago. More recently I was hearing one or two calling from around a 1/4 mile away every day several times in spring and early summer. I thought they were killed or escaped as the calls stopped. It always came from same direction, so I assumed they were captive. 3 months ago I saw one walk out of the woods surrounding my home and walk across my yard. I have heard that they will go wild and take up with wild turkeys. a week ago a pair came out of the woods next to my coop and run. They walked up to the fence and peered at the chooks and my chooks all stopped and peered back at them. I left the run and tossed some greens to them. One picked a little up and ate it, and the other, the cock, ignored it. In a minute, they walked back into the woods. Have not seen nor heard them since. I suppose they have gone feral. I know that they can and will nest high up in a tree or on top of a house. Likely owls will leave them alone because of size. Ditto for hawks I suspect.
