Shadrach's Ex Battery and Rescued chickens thread.

Often I get lost in translation too. Baby talk: Beans are not the same kind of veggies (vegetables) as veggie-roots and veggie-leaves. The roots and leaves don’t contain that much proteins.

I make my own hummus with chick peas, tahini (sesame paste) , garlic , olive oil, a little boiled water, pepper and a herb we call ketoembar or dried koriander. Tastes a lot better than the products they sell in the supermarket (contains way too much cheap oil).

For me, cooking beans 🫘 takes way too much time to prepare.

The beans are easy to cook if you leave them in water over night, then rinse, add water, and cook.

The time is a lot less this way.

It stayed dry for the couple of hours I was there. A little feed left in the tray.
I just let them out and cleaned and refilled the tray while they went in and out.

Could be something they ate, I found purple today......, but they have been in places they haven't been in for months
I'm hoping so. The overnight poop was fine. I've been a bit surprised that the poop has looked as normal as it has given the amount of bugs etc they've eaten recently. Can't fault the allotments for lack of stuff to eat.:D

Here Coriander is the seed of the Cilantro plant, Cilantro is the leaves and stems. I love it but to some people it tastes like soap. One has to wonder what they were doing as children that they know what soap tastes like ;)

Generally speaking once I've broken a broody she won't lay for about 5 days. Of course she wasn't laying while broody either. Give the girls time and see if they don't start back up.

The strange thing was not that Katrientje stopped laying. But that Janice who wasn’t broody, stopped laying too. And Kraai who never laid an egg, was (accompanying) broody.

But kidney beans still take an endless 50 minutes….. That’s one reason I like lentils. They are ready in about 10 minutes (depending on the type /colour).

I use lentils sometimes in recipes instead of minced meat. I have a great pastitio recipe (greek kitchen) with lentils and cinamon. I might share it tomorrow.
