Shadrach's Ex Battery and Rescued chickens thread.

You may already do this, but may I suggest wearing a KN95 (or equivalent) mask while on, and using hand sanitizer as soon as you get off?
Great idea to dodge rush hours at your eldest's.
I do wear a FFP2 mask on the crowded buses.
The chances of picking up something nasty are quite slim from contacting surfaces I'm led to believe. Most infections are from inhaling recently expelled droplets.
Hopefully the people avoidance tactics will be enough.

Two hours today. Damp and windy. Everybody came out but the wind gusts made them nervous and they didn't wander far.
Dig is making a grab for his sister from time to time. She shouts at him and he lets go.
There was something going on between Dig and Henry in this picture. It was all calm and looked like Henry was imprinting Dig.

The wind has brought more trees down, ripped the panels out of one of the greenhouse and rearranged a few of the makeshift poly tunnels on the plots. Most of what takes flight easily has wedged itself somewhere now but branches are still cracking and this does disturb the chickens.

I think even the big Christmas spenders amoung family and friends have realised that it's about getting together, not the presents.
My boys pretty much always got what they wanted when we could afford it. (they have never been greedy or demanding.) When my boys were about 15 and 16, I finally instituted a "No Stuff" Christmas. Instead we started going out to do something together as a family, a meal out and Christmas dinner. My mom was notorious for buying a million things,(she gets that from her mother..), and the holidays were always stressful and chaotic. The first year, we went to the wildlife park, fresh air and lot's of animals (they were all rescues from people who thought they could keep a tiger or other wild animal in a private home..), the boys quickly decided that was the best Christmas ever and we have never done the big family "stuff" day again. Another favourite was the Tlaquepaque Resort in Sedona, hot cocoa and a winter wonderland full of amazing lights, decorations and festive music.

I really like that they get along so well, with just the occasional chase round the garden to remind everyone who's boss.
Ours love the rain, the egg thief says it is because they are an English breed..lol

The boys are so endearing, all 5 of mine are getting along really well. Blue is still the boss, but they are are extremely tolerant of the Pip and Squeak. Goldie and Spud had an altercation yesterday and I just picked them both up and gave them a petting, calmed them down and lectured them about fighting, today, all happy families.

All of the gifts and gifting can really get out of hand, and somewhat detracts from the real meaning of things. It's great that you have found activities that are more value-adding to you and your family!

Vent moment: Personally, I find excessive gifts from overly enthusiastic in-laws somewhat obnoxious. I have learned that traditions vastly vary from family to family. To me, materialism seems a poor substitute for meaningful relationships, personalized gratitude, and moderation!

Wet chicken tax for the gifting vent moment:
