Shadrach's Ex Battery and Rescued chickens thread.

Wet windy and miserable. Two hours today. We did get out for about half an hour in a dry spell. Mow and Dig were least bothered by the weather.
Cleaned the coop out. C won't clean daily but they did feed them this morning.
Henry trod on the feed tray.

Dig is growing up to be a very handsome fella. Hopefully he will continue to get along with his dad, as Skomer is despite being the same size now - this photo was taken the other day of them sheltering from the weather by the back door, standing side by side in peace and quiet. Fforest is there too, though he's closest to the door and all you can see of him is his comb, bottom centre. I really like that they get along so well, with just the occasional chase round the garden to remind everyone who's boss.

Just plain horrid on the weather front. Currently what dry spells there are are mostly in the mornings.
I saw Dig doing the i've found food performance today for the first time. Hos sister Mow went to look but I didn't see if Dig stood back and let Mow eat what he had found. Dig is at that stage where he's trying to work out exactly where I fit in the hierachy. He watches me a lot. He's stopped fussin about whether he'll get any treats. It's Henry first, then Carbon, Fret, Mow and finally Dig. He was barging and grabbing, now he sort of waits.
Henry spends most time with Carbon but this is because Carbon seeks Henry out. Fret still comes out of the coop at roosting time if Mow and Dig aren't in and checks where they are. She'' do this a couple of times if Mow and Dig are tardy about roosting. Fret doesn't actively feed her two but she will share.

It’s quiet here. Glad you are reporting again Shad.

Here we really had a lot of water the past 2 months. Rivers are completely filled up or even more. Area’s assigned to flood with high water are flooded. In a town at 50 km distance from where I live they put sand-sacks along the kai to prevent the water coming into town. Many people in several places have water in their cellars.
But there’s no panicking so far.

My chickens have dirty feed from the mud in the run. But the water is still sinking in.

The chickens spend more time in the coop nowadays.
