Good on you! There's no telling how many cat lives (not to mention wild birds) you've saved by helping keep the population under control.

We're in an impoverished region of the US, and there are actually quite a few low-cost spay/neuter options here. Not sure whether vets are donating time; we did have a retired-vet neighbor who used to do just that, but he's passed away. Some of the free options are through a local voucher system sponsored by a fund to address pet overpopulation, so that may indicate the vets are paid market rate rather than donating their time.

In other words, members of the community are footing the bill for others' neglect and irresponsibility. Which I suppose is how life works. I mean, this thread wouldn't exist if someone hadn't stepped up to care for souls who were exploited and mistreated by others.

Tax for being exhausted by human failings and inspired by those who pick up the slack: it's bug-hunting season, and the eating is good. You don't want to be an insect at the wrong end of these beaks.

Yep, I can tell from the look, definitely a bad case of Carbonistis.


Unusual in how his hackles hang like a scarf.

Stilton is a 5-6lb noodle of muscle, so I imagine smaller than Henry. Stilton just holds himself like a big guy, and he is robustly feathered and tall.

His height is part of the reason behind his name: he looked like he was on stilts as a juvenile. He also had coloring like a chunk of blue cheese. Exhibit A: 9-week-old Stilty with BFF Ashley by his side, like she always was.

Our Brahmas are petite, so they make him look bigger, too, but he's actually smaller than our Marans and Langshan hens.

Agreed his hackles are bodacious. Check them out at 20 weeks:

Here's an old favorite of Stilton being gentlemanly with his crew. You can sort of see his size here.

Anyway, that'll teach you to ask a specific question about one of our chickens! I seem to have accrued endless stories and photo collections for each chicken. Wish that made me more interesting than peculiar anywhere but on this website

He talks, but hasn't crowed yet, possibly because the hens keep him in his place. He's just 12 weeks old.

Temperature is in the 70s partly sunny with showers predicted rain showers this evening.

I travelled in rain today coming back from Jacksonville, at times I could not see the paint on the road and was driving 35 to 45 mph in a 60 mph area.

Not sure I follow you. All my chickens have small colored zip-ties on one leg, to help with identification.
