The all black girl has bumblefoot but I couldn't pass up a fibromelanistic hen!
great news about Fret. I do hope she makes a full recovery. Two hours this afternoon. It felt colder than the forcasted 10C. It did stay dry despite some very ominous heavy dark grey clouds.
Fret is gaining confidence in being able to get about. She was last away from the compost heaps this afternoon and she's scratching with both feet at what looks to me to be equaly pressure. She does still look unstead on some rough terrain, particularly if there are trailing weeds growing there. She's moulting but isn't looking put out over it.
Fret.

Mow is still mpooulting and still looks out of sorts at times. But, she's eating and foraging more. I need to do her feet again.

Sylph and Tull.
Neither of them have shown any great attatchment to either of the cockerels. Sylph follows Henry more than Tull does but currently it's the boys out together and the girls staying closer to the seniors. This makes life a bit easier when it comes to killing the cockerels, but not much I have to write.

The cockerels.View attachment 3956328
So far the one on the left has shown no signs of wanting to mate. The one on the chair arm is trying, mostly with Mow. I have seen him try with Sylph but she's to quick for him.

Are you introducing new words now? Did you mean moulting and looking like Teletubbie Po.mpooulting
I thought you mentioned once that roosters/cockerels arent interested in hens that are not ready to lay. So… do you think Sylph will lay her first egg soon?I have seen him try with Sylph but she's too quick for him.
I wonder. My previous boy Tintin did about the same. He went to sleep in the berry bush after momma Pearl left him. Tintin wasn’t allowed to roost with the hens. He preferred the bush above a tiny coop (sort of large nestbox) with a roost in it , standing only 1 m from the berry. This boy keeps trying to sleep in the honey suckle bush.
Yes the moms kicked the 8 kids to the curb and none of the hens want the kids near them on the roost. 2 are pullets. Lots of bullying at roost time.I wonder. Last year I had a similar kick out problem with 9 chicks.Yes the moms kicked the 8 kids to the curb and none of the hens want the kids near them on the roost. 2 are pullets. Lots of bullying at roost time.
About a week ago there was a pullet and this boy that were running around one morning when I went to open the coop. Every night I have to get him out of the same bush. The pullet must have not liked sleeping out because she goes in. When I chase him out of the bush he goes into a nest box. They are around 8 weeks.
