Shadrach's Ex Battery and Rescued chickens thread.

Two and a half hours today. No rain, some sunshine and a light wind. It's going to be a chilly night.

Yeah, I still need Whatscrapp to stay connected with my family and many of my friends.
Unfortunately not everyone want to transfer to Signal.
And for my work I need LinkedIn, instagram and facebook. I successfully persuaded my colleagues to quit twitter.

Social tax:

My 2 coops and the netted run in between. With a shite bucket under the laying nests.

My chickens, the pigeons, jays and the magpies all live together is reasonable harmony.
And yesterday I was very pleased with a neighbour cat who probably hunted down and killed a rat. 🤢🐀

PS only 1 chicken (Janice) sleeps in the tiny coop with the laying nests. 4 chickens sleep on the other side in the black coop (hard to see on the photo). And 3 chickens sleep in the childrens playhouse.
So basically you're a social media addict.:p

Caught him mid wattle wobble

(Yeah so I never got round to eating him in the end  Took about six months but he's much less of an arse now.)
A lot of cockerels that don't seem very promising straighten out after a year to eighteen months.

He was an arse from a few weeks old, way before the terrible teens stage!

He's still kind of on borrowed time because I have him, his brother and the two younger RIR cockerels at the moment - plus likely at least one more from the chicks. If one singles himself out for a dinner invitation that's one thing, but if it just seems like the numbers aren't working out and the pullets don't show much of a preference then he's probably still first on the list.

I keep wondering how those two Barred Rock cockerels I swapped back to the breeder are doing. I miss them much more than I expected to. One of the younger pullets I swapped them for is absolutely besotted with both the Light Sussex boys though - she's been mooning around after them like a lovesick puppy and grooms them any chance she gets. That's been nice to see, since she found the move difficult and hadn't settled in quite as well as her sister. She's growing into a real beauty too.

😳 The work part is bc I am communications officer. Making newsletters, organising webinars, building websites, spread the news. ;P
Today I posted only 1 personal message: sending a digital B’day card to a friend. And BYC is not social media, its chicken media. :love

Set myself up there didn't I 🤦‍♂️ only taken a couple of days out in gen pop for him to get back to his old ways. I'm bloody furious with him but also pretty hacked off with myself because I knew he was like that, I was just second guessing myself partly as kind of a response to some of the nonsense people spout here (not this thread specifically) and elsewhere.
