That's true. I had fried rattlesnake in a south Texas deer camp. Fried quail and smoked boar that evening too.

I've found it takes at least 18 months for a rooster to settle down.

My Princesses don’t get scratch grain or meal worms as treats, but I use both for bribing them to go where I need them to go.
I used this yesterday to get them to go into the run before dark so I could lock up because I was freezing cold and needed to go in.

That works for me too, except for getting them to bed, since we have no run so I can't con them into the coops - and trying to herd them in like sheep is a dead loss

I can only imagine!
I am lucky in that I have a quite sizeable, predator secure, covered run. I only really close up the hen house itself when it is very very cold and very windy in case of drafts coming in through the chicken door. So if I can bribe them into the run then I can lock up and go inside to warm up.
