C paid £30.00 for Fret.

Nor me but.
They are a rare breed.
There is the keeping cost for a year.
The hen is proven broody.
If people want them to be less rare (endangered?) maybe they should sell birds for a price many can afford. $300/bird knocks out most people. It doesn't cost $300 to raise a chick to POL unless you start with nothing and have to build a coop and run.

I'm going to try Harkers 4 in 1 for this poor hen. She's mite and lice free, eats a bit but not enough and keeps apart from the rest unless she's eating. No lower belly bulge, clean vent but I don't think she's laying. Her crop is working but I haven't been able to isolate her poop from the rest. She's not egg bound and when disturbed looks fairly normal.

I've never paid more than £20 for a bird, and hatching eggs are usually 2 or 3 each. Even the best breeders sell their cull stock at reasonable prices. I think Shad must be talking about show stock.
I know nothing about the trade having never bought or sold a chicken. I suppose people will pay whatever it takes to get what they want. I know a few people that have paid £1000.00 or more for a dog.

I saw puppies for sale at $4750 a couple of weeks ago. AUD of course.

Puppy farms are against the law here in SA, which means puppies in shops come from registered breeders who might have only a few litters a year, depending on how many bitches they keep. It's possible to approach breeders directly and pay less for a pup, but they have wait lists and many have strict preferences on who they sell pups to.

It's healthier for the dogs (several very nasty puppy farms were busted by the rspca which led to the law being made), but really sad that kids in some families are unlikely to afford a puppy.

Fully grown dogs (usually with problems but sometimes good dogs whose owners have died) can be adopted for a smaller price from various rehoming centres.

I think the Norfolk Grey Bantams are pretty hard to come by, but it seems like a lot of money to me given the prices of other chickens that I know anything about. Still, he is very happy that he got them finally so I can't help but feel pleased for him. It wouldn't take long to piss £600.00 up the wall at todays beer prices.

Might the sick legbar have mg?

Might the sick legbar have mg?
She might but she has none of the symptoms I would associate with Mycoplasma Gallisepticum (Roup).
There are so many possible causes that it would take a competent avian vet to diagnose. That isn't an option heartbreaking though it may be.
