Shadrach's Ex Battery and Rescued chickens thread.

The sick hen is the one on the left of Matilda the Light Sussex.
The Legbars tend to circle around the Ex Battery hens when I spread some treat out. A couple will eat from my hand if Henry lets them.

This is Henry showing some interest in Lima so I guess she may be planning on laying an egg soon.

This was interesting. Henry wandered off and I heard him give the I've found food call. Only two of the Ex Battery hens showed any interest but Matilda was over there like a shot.

The chickens' terraforming project is really coming along!

Not yet. She isn't showing any signs of being in any distress and the simple truth is if there is a problem it's beyond my skills to put right assuming its a reproductive issue.
Do you ferment occasionally?

By the way I've been leaving shells out with oyster and mixed grit. Agatha actually laid a better egg this morning

Thank you, Shad! So kind & unexpected! I’m definitely not the best writer so I hope my passion for chickens is evident! They are such wonderful creatures that I am fortunate enough to spend time with!

& thank you for the kind words, @Perris !

Of course, some tax lol. Hope a fluffy butt will do!

I love how you've used small branches on the ramp for the chooks to grip Iluveggers. Very clever. I must remember that idea for when we build the new coop. 👍

It only happened that way because I built it by myself and couldn’t find a saw…I broke branches we keep in a pile in our woods, until I had enough about the right size to screw on. A workable adaptation!

Phoenix is growing into a handsome cockerel. I really like the fountain of white fluff where his tail meets his torso; does anyone know, is that normal with partridge plumage?

I'm not sure about the color so much, but I will say Wes, my pheonix male also has white there. I've noticed that pretty much most males have tails that have a downy plume, but usually I see them most on my long, low set pheonix tails and on my high set male tails
