Shadrach's Ex Battery and Rescued chickens thread.

The chickens are foraging right out to the boundries now. They've worked their way from just out side the coop run to the boundries in the space of a few months looking for things to eat. Very roughly they've more or less exhausted 300 square meters just by being out of the coop run for a couple of hours every afternoon.
There is about a further 60 square meters they haven't exhausted yet.
It's getting close to the time to put up some kind of temporary fence around sections of the rest of the allotment. I could do with it being a bit dryer before I attempt this.

Looks as you enjoyed the Sun as much as you did @Shadrach
It was lovely even if it was cold Penny. I sit in the chair and watch them come and go. The Legbars in particular make quite frequent trips to the food dispenser in the covered part of the coop to snack. Henry tries to escort them only to find he's meeting one going as he is coming back with another.
He's begun to herd them to the chair area which has become a safe spot now even if I'm not sitting there.

A rather dirty Matilda.

A half decent picture of Carbon who has still not grown out her tail feather.

Slide looking well and getting used to me checking her bum and crop now. She's looking better than she has for some time.

Good looking crew 😁

We've had a couple of nights where the temperature has dropped below freezing. This has meant that the tap that supplies the water froze and this makes doing the water in the mornings difficult.
The days however have been sunny after the river mist lifts.
These are pictures from yesterday.View attachment 2961924View attachment 2961925View attachment 2961926
Amazing photos. I find it so cool that there is a patch of wild right there in the middle of those houses.

I can’t even put into words how much I love this.
