I desolved it then added egg and sardines. That worked really well

Yes indeed. Also pet stores sell pill crushers and pill splitters all in one device. They are actually really easy to use. Turns out it doesn't make the cats any easier to give a pill to but that is a different story.

I think things went well enough, although bandaging the feet of an uncooperative chicken with fully feathered legs and feet is not an easy task. I had to enlist the help of my wife.
