Shadrach's Ex Battery and Rescued chickens thread.

Henry was pleased to see me. He came straight over and gave me a peck on my boot as soon as I let them all out.:love
No one missing. Not particulalry hungry when I arrived so today at least they were well fed.
The last bag of pellets I bought came in weighed kilo bags so I have a good idea of how much pellet feed they've had while I've been sick. It's still not enough but far better than I expected.
One hen needs something done about the back of her neck. Henry I assume has pulled the feathers out during mating. It looks like they've been at it a lot because the hens neck looks sore. I'll give the neck a clean and disinfect it tomorrow and have a quiet word in the hens ear about running.:p
It was good to be back. I picked Fret up this evening to move her from the middle of the coop entrance where she was waiting for an opportunity to make herself a spot next to Henry. She was very good. Normally if you even look like you might be think about picking her up next week sometime she goes hysterical.
One of the Legbars isn't the full ticket. Nothing one can put ones finger on but...
They have been out, but not much judging by the conditition of the grass. It's been mainly dry but there are lots of new shoots which the chickens peck out in preference to taking on the rough undergrowth.

Wonderful update! I hope the legbar is OK.
