Shadrach's Ex Battery and Rescued chickens thread.

TAX.
Beatha is an Australian Aracauna. She is not a people hen so this is extremely unusual.

Those are some boat slippahs! Beautiful chook ♡
build houses that are made for the heat and to isolate existing houses.
Agreed!

Hanging with my new pal. Think it is time for a name.

Our house is raised, insulated, facing the right directions with as many louvered windows as we could reasonably fit. Fact is our winds are leaving us. We have had a 40% reduction of our Tradewinds since the 1980's.
No AC for us still. I have planted as many trees as possible on our property and do what I do for my chooks. Cool water and lay low during the worst of the days heat.
We have chairs and table under our trees and where we retreat to during the worst of it. It is also a good time to deep water my trees- run a hose on big plants. It is amazing how I can cool our property with just water.

*** cool cloth on the neck does wonders.

Ex Batts good afternoon one and all!

81 and cloudy with humidity 95 % and rain off and on.

:gig some Brits. Others of us are still in cardies in mid summer, and then there's the whole gamut of eccentrics who express themselves chiefly through their choice of attire... e.g. this is supposedly 'cool' :th

If you look at his hand he is holding his pants up.

Have a great day!

Some of our medias almost made fun of the fact that gb has its first heat alert. I think it's pretty scary, hope you won't suffer too much!
I don't think putting air conditioning everywhere is a sustainable solution. It's a vicious circle. I understand it's necessary in places like you live in @GregnLety but in less extreme conditions we need to learn to build houses that are made for the heat and to isolate existing houses.
Very true. A message in our news claimed that installing airco’s word wide in upcoming economies, will add 0,5 degrees Celsius more global temperature rising.

We should plant more trees and make rooftop /facade green in our build environment to stop the heat. Not pollute even more to get into more heat trouble.

More tax from my chickens who prefer warm days over cold.

We should ~ but some people are idiots & just don't care. Before I left the island I watched a new house go up. Every single green living thing on his block & whatever he could kill on the neighbouring blocks was decimated. The entire structure was surrounded in cement. They watched this process seated under a lone spindly sapling, the only thing left giving an ounce of shade, & even in winter it was baking ~ unbearably hot. It was aesthetically displeasing & unlivable from my POV. If he hasn't already, he will need air con & winter heating.

I passed the CSE exam😁🍻

Now for the interview process.
Good luck and lots of inspiration with the interviews. If I can ..you can do this too! 👍

I had 5 interviews and one test to obtain a new job. I’m starting my new job 1sth of September. They selected me not just for my skills, but because I subscribe the goals of the company too. It has high environmental goals. But my new salary is only a modest raise compared to the one you’re hopefully getting. I don’t mind. Some things in this world are more important than earning more money as needed.

More tax for non chicken rambling:

🤣
Guess what kind of chicken this is.

The top of the frame is wedged in the cattle panel. A screw kept it from shifting until it tightened up by screwing it to the cattle panel
Not sure if you can see in this picture, it's getting dark

Thanks @Molpet . I think I've worked out what to do now with the materials I've got.

Yes sir, I'd be making oilfield money but I will be home every night. Maybe afford more chickens (3 dozen and counting) 🤣
Many years ago I had the chance to work on one of the North Sea oil rigs. The reason I didn't take the job was it would have meant living on the rig.
Maybe I should have done. The pay was likely to end up four times what I was being paid at current job at the time.
