The extended coop where most chickens roost now.

Kraai was allowed to sleep there last night. Only Janice went to the old coop to roost (just as she did when she was a pullet).

So the chickens don’t have to be separated anymore. Nice for us and the neighbour when we leave for our summer holidays.

P.s . On the left you can see the automatic pop door to the main run. Made with an old plastic cutting board. (i don’t buy them anymore bc wooden are healthier / better).

I wish I could can them! ('can' in the sense of stop)
The trouble with modern so-called democracy is we get a 'choice' between two bad options, once every five years. Peaceful removal from office is about all that remains of the core concept, and the news is that's under threat.
It's always a matter of choosing between the lesser of 2 evils when voting..

For humans some types of Calcium are not digestible (limestone?) and others are (like Ca in milk and pharma tablets). This has to do with the chemical bond that the Ca has entered into.

I know this because I have a nephew who was allergic for cows milk when he was a baby. To compensate doctors adviced supplements.

Of course our chickens have another digestive system. But maybe there is a similarity?

I found some info about feeding Ca to chickens. Informative, but not very clear. https://www.semanticscholar.org/paper/Oyster-Shells,-Calcite-Grit,-Ground-Limestone,-and-Heuser-Norris/ed3516f0c73725e4116881a77c1a9368ef156a41
And I have just discovered that the oyster shell readily available to me is in fact chunks of limestone I just sourced some actual oyster shell and it looks totally different. Mine aren’t that keen on the limestone so I am hoping oyster shell is more appealing. It certainly looks nicer!

I don't agree, I think this is a story that is being told to us to make us vote for people whose ideas we don't agree with. I believe that there was a time when people actually had a chance to vote for someone who represented their beliefs. Maybe not at every election, maybe not all of their ideas, but some of it at least. Ever since I've had the right to vote I've only had the chance to vote against the extreme right- I don't call this democracy or if it is, I'm not playing this game.

Mine have never, ever, touched oyster shell or grit. When I try to invite them to eat it politely they make evil gestures at me. When Caramel was sick she ate earth, small stones and dirt, but refused grit.
Political tax. Two degrees less this morning made a huge difference but now we're back to 33/ 91.

As my father use to say, if they aren't a crook when they get voted into office they certainly will be when they get voted out of office. 🤣😂

Warm and mainly sunny.
This is one of the sick notes. She's looked a little better the last couple of days.
Most of the mites on her legs are dead now. I've ordered some Iodine (can't believe how expensive it is here compared to Catalonia) to make the mixture that I found worked really well and that was to mix Betadine (a solution) 25% to 75% Vaseline.

Everybody out. They had around three hours out today while I messed around with the new coop run and cleaned up. No treats today much to Henry's disgust.

This is one of the lap sitters.

This is all that's left of the old coop roost bar crew.View attachment 3212739

Is the Betadine Solution and Vaseline mixture just for leg mites?

I have used the plastic cutting boards for shelves in the freezer of a refrigerator and a large one for a shelf in the refrigerator..

I must say they worked quite well.
