Indeed, but Charles can't always keep his thoughts to himself, and is not always as tactful as would be wise in expressing them. He was way ahead of the curve on organic farming and other environmental issues and got a lot of flack for it back in the day.

That garden centre looks wonderful. I hope your new plants work out well.

I imagine he was very well advised back then and remains so today.

You can have a look at hunting or trekking equipment. Hunters who stay posted have all kind of fun gear to stay dry like this tarp shelter, rain camouflage ponchos and huge umbrellas that you can see through.
I have a 20 euros rain poncho for hiking that's pretty efficient but I still get wet if it rains heavily for a long time.

@Perris I showed Merle and Piou-piou your tree huggers and it gave them some ideas.

The Tarp Shelters are a possible answer.
I've got a couple of very good waterproof jackets. Even though they are workware rather than sport or fashion they've been caught in things and nails and screws have put hole in the pockets. I know I write a lot about sitting down but I do have to do things and that means motion.
I'm going to put a chair in one of the runs so when it all goes wrong and the chickens have gone to bed, it's dark and just when you think it cant rain any harder it does it's best to show you different, I've got somewhere to sit.

I don’t think Shad doesn’t need another shelter. He can put the chair in the sheltered run. And wait until the rain passes. (Maybe the chickens will like the extra shelter ).

Anyway. It crossed my mind that Shad might be too impatient to sit and wait. Even if its raining and .

As long as I'm warm enough I'm quite happy sitting in the run with the rain pouring down but I have to consider getting home.

@Perris I suppose it’s not a good idea to criticise the public , who loves you the most , for their behaviour. Not if you want to be king for another decade. And then want to pass it on to you’re eldest son.

But I would highly appreciate it.

Last week I visited an organic garden centre. And bought some plants for the shade. The plant are hopefully not too tasty as feed for my chickens.

Normally I would take Sunday off but I had to go and collect some tools from my eldests so I went to see the chickens while I was close by.

It's a year today since I first saw the allotment chickens.
When I include the food, the medications, the cost of my part of the coop, the materials for the run I estimate I've spent around £800.00 this year. It would be a lot more if I had to pay for transport. Yes they are worth it and I have been able to afford it. I think many people spend similar or more on their hobbies.

The chickens like me and I think C is begining to like me as well. I'll look forward to another year.

These £800 are so well spent.

there's a fair amount of capital expenditure there; should be significantly less next year - unless you build them a palace of course

In a nutshell, if I understand it aright, the crown estate net surplus (handed over from royal family to the state) for 20-21 = £269M; the royal grant (handed over from govt to the royal family) = £86M. So the country gained about £180M income from the royal estates.

Some rich people are much less open or honest about their income and taxes, and it's not obvious that their wealth was acquired more legitimately either.

I find this a peculiar way to see things..I don't understand why the royal estates shouldn't belong to the nation completely .
If having the royal family really gives people a sense of hope and dignity like MaryJanet says, it's worth it I suppose. I would still call it opium for the people . But we've beheaded ours a long time ago and quite a few people that didn't deserve it along the way so I guess the cultural difference is too wide for me to really understand what's going on.

As cities go Bristol is as good as it gets in the UK imo. Like many towns and cities it's got some pretty dire housing estates but the city iself has character and it's small. Most of the modern buildings in the pictures are around the dock area which has been in the process of modernization for some time.
What I dislike most about Bristol is Bristol City Council looked at the option of having a tram system for the docks and the commercial areas. There were already some tram lines in place. The Council went for buses.

It seems you've adapted very well to coming back to England. And you've found a way to keep up with your interest in chickens. I admire people like you who are able to make the best of things or changes in life they didn't ask for. I'm glad you're looking forward to watch for the allotment crew, it means it was worth it, and I'm not only thinking about money but about all the doubts you expressed at the beginning of the thread regarding rescues.

Yesterday I saw a post that resonated with me and made me think of you and your crew, from a lady that has a small shelter for rescues chickens. She said at first she felt like all the deaths were personal failures, but with experience, she understood that she shouldn't see her role as a saviour, but as a steward, and that she was just there to walk a little along the chicken's way to try and make their path easier.

Tax: my four ex-batts doing their stuff with the rooster. I suppose they have began molting because there are feathers all over the place! They will soon be three years old, and I'm not sure how many will still be there after winter. I'm giving them plenty of stuff to enjoy from the garden before we get the first frosts!
