Q: Is SLM , scaly leg mites? In Dutch we say kalkpoten, meaning chalk legs.
Its often too hard for me to remember abbreviations in a foreign language with no clue to remember.
Appologies. I do remember sometimes and do the full Scaly Leg Mite (SLM) bit.

19. One of the Legbars was dead in the coop when I arrived. I thinks she's Copy.
She wasn't on the watch list and was the hen that was roosting with Henry until she went to roost in the new coop last night.
Some pictures of Copy dead.

If it is sodden fiberglass insulation the entire ceiling likely needs to come down as the drywall will be soggy and molding as well. :(
Very true. Had some water get into my dining room ceiling which required removal of a good pice of my ceiling, mold remediation and new drywall and insulation. While an eyesore for a while it mandated a roof inspection which got new roofing on the house and garage.

This is the Iodine and Vasaline mixture I've been using.
The mix is about 20 millilitres of the Iodine liquid to half a tub of Vaseline.
Medical grade petroleum jelly works just as well and one can buy larger tubs.
The Iodine strength is 3% in Isopropyl alcohol.

If you've tried brushing Vaseline onto a chickens leg you'll know that when it's cold the brush doesn't pick it up well and when applied to the leg, one tends to get lumps which won't spread. It's about there I end up using my fingers.
The Iodine liquid mixes well with the Vaseline and the mixture becomes less viscous and picks up and goes on easily with the brush. There is the added bonus that the alcohol will kill the mites. The alcohol slowly evapourates leaving the Vaseline in place with the Iodine.
I hope this picture shows the consitency.
