That's crazy..... although I forgot that in the States there's abandoned mining towns. Not sure if they are available

My flock is acting a bit weird lately. If I let them out to free range. They go out for an hour or maybe 2. After that the chickens return to the run by themselves. No scratch needed to lure them and lock them up.
I give scratch anyway. And the know this of course.

But I am wondering. Why do they prefer going back into the run above free ranging whole day.

The opening between party-run attached to the coop and the run in the back. Nice if I want to separate a new chicken or a broody.

Is Henry still sleeping alone in the old coop? I thought he'd move to the new one by now.

Yep, he's still sleeping there. It's a double edged sword on which one could balance a world beating prevarection constest.

One, I think he finds the pop door on the new coop a bit on the small side. He didn't appreciate it when I told him he's got a big arse.
Two, I'm not delighted with the space in the new coop for the number of hens.
Cuddly though Henry is, the coop suddenly shrinks to half size when he's in there.

I had assumed there would be fewer hens by now. That hasn't been the case.
My main priority now is to improve the ground in the run and provide some entertainment in the such a perches and stuff to climb on.
And, get the small coop out of the run so I can fix it if practicable.

The magpies were screaming here yesterday as if they knew what was coming, then a massive thunder bang immediately before these hailstones. Did you have thunder to?

Yup, a couple of bangs.

When I am at the farm, I’m going to watch the cockerels and the rest of the flock a bit more closely. Two of the pullets there have been laying for a few days.

Bear in mind that at their age the hens may not have chosen a cockerel yet.

It's the English that were the problem. The rest of the British, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland were in favour of staying.
