Our gov't wastes an enormous amount of taxpayer money, i.e. subsidies to big ag, big pharm, big oil, etc. And things like $40 billion to ukraine do not help when our economy is in shambles due to extreme mismanagent at best and outright sabotage at worst.

but waste isn't theft. They are two quite different concepts.
Clearly taxes are a political issue, but surely language shouldn't be?

I think this is really hard to explain in a few words. Basic infrastructure and a small government can be paid by tariff, corporate tax, etc. It doesn't have to tax on individuals. For example, in my very limited knowledge of US history, its federal government only started collecting income tax around 1913.

The US government inevitably grew bigger and bigger despite the founding fathers' great effort to limit it, since big government is always a great way to corrupt. So they have to create new ways to ''tax'' people.

US Department of Homeland security, such important sounding agency, was only created in 2002, a direct result of 911, which crisis the government took fully advantage of.

We like to complain. It's just human nature.

I don’t love seeing that money taken out of the paycheck, and I certainly have some disagreement with where/how it is spent, but there’s no such thing as a free lunch.

I’m out of pictures, plus I’ve stayed up too late anyway, so I’ll pay taxes in the morning.

Please look further ahead. What will happen if they stop paying? Or Ukraine is falling?
Im no expert, but I do know for sure, I don’t want Poetin or any other leaders/country outside of Western Europe here to tell me what to do. Freedom of speech and free elections are very important for any future.

I'm one of the rare person happy to pay taxes.
I often don't agree with how it's used, but that's another thing. I think redistribution is an absolute necessity in a capitalist world.
