Shadrach's Ex Battery and Rescued chickens thread.

Isn't that about the least natural thing for a bird to be, especially in your rainy climate?

my wife and i are seriously contemplating moving out of the US for a few years minimum.
Wait .... she wouldn't compromise on the move to NJ to be closer to her parents to at least get a house with enough yard for a couple of chickens but she will move out of the country entirely???

Even if you swallow no more than a peasize of toothpaste 2x a day is no problem as long as it doesn’t add up to drinking water that contains fluorides
Or something like ACT fluoride rinse which you don't swallow at all.

Yes, when we bought the property 6 years ago the dock was already there. It was just low on the list of priorities until recently.
And like all other priority lists, when a task finally nears the top something comes along and becomes #1. I understand well!

from the people who haven't really solved the problem; just got rid of it.
Which solved the problem for THEM ;) Their problem was they had a rooster they didn't get on with. No rooster, no problem :D

And that is married life. :lau

what's that? layered?
yes. Brown dry organic material on the bottom (wood, cardboard, etc,) > compost > regular dirt >then good top soil. We feed composting material down the tube /keyhole, all the time, it interacts with the regular dirt, original compost layer and the decaying brown material so that the nutrients in the soil are constantly replenished. We are really enjoying a great yield and the chicken manure has really upped our game. :)

I think the "frizzle" gene is a trait that just pops up now and then. I don't know very much about breeding for specific traits. All my chickens are farmyard mutts, and I highly doubt anyone in these parts is trying to breed frizzles, or anything else, so it didn't happen on purpose that's for sure. A chicken is a chicken is a chicken here, to quote Gertrude Stein.

frizzles are awesome!

Hey @Shadrach , do you remember when you considered stopping this thread?,
It's really unbelievable how many people have now joined and post everything about ex batts, other chickens, gardening, way of life, health, the environment and much more.

I really got to love this random community you intoxicated with your love for chickens, roosters, set ups and free ranging ideas.
Downside is I can hardly keep up anymore. And there is barely time left to follow anything else. 😰 ❤️🎉🌴🍀🫛🐓🐓
One would have thought that the tax would have made me rich. Instead it's getting spent on proxy wars in support of some apparently dubious roosters.
Never mind. This seems to be an International problem and where could be more appropriate than BYC.

I need to go out and gather up some TAX photos as soon as it stops raining. It took a long time to start raining and now it doesn't know when we've had enough. Flood watch posted for us.
Tsk tsk. Whasamatterwivya taxmen don't care what the weather is like.:p

Good lasagna has a liberal sprinkling of "soul" in it, too. It's not just on top, though; it runs all the way through it. I once had "Proper Italian Seasonings" legitimately explained to me with, "Just keep sprinkling your herbs until the souls of your ancestors say, "Stop."
If you've ever watched an old Italian lady ... or pretty much any other true cook work ("A little of this, a bit of that, maybe a pinch more of this other,") you understand!
I've looked everywhere for some soul to add to my cooking. Lidle don't seem to stock it.:hmm
