Shadrach's Ex Battery and Rescued chickens thread.

Poopy, pic2 and pic5, lays a lot of thin shelled eggs. Lately many times she would try laying an egg in the box but nothing is ever there. Is she internally laying :-( ? She appears normal otherwise.
The other hens shells are okay?
Can you give Poopy extra Calcium tablets for humans. I dont know the dosis but that shouldn’t be hard to find.

p.s. Lafleche gave a better, more precise answer on the Calcium treatment. I don’t know how sure you are about internally laying. But when Poopy gets sick and her belly gets swollen, you are probably too late with antibiotics.

A few years ago I had a hen laying soft shell eggs every now and then. And this probably went wrong one day. When I noticed she was sick with a swollen belly, she died within 24 hours. After this occurrence I learned I could have tried the Calcium treatment.

this morning after breakfast Chirk went into the nearest border (rather than hang around the trampoline waiting to be let back in), so I guess he thinks he's ready to roam free again. I let everyone else out, and they've now all eaten and are dispersing to rest and digest, and it's all quiet, so I'll pay close attention later this morning when they start foraging. :fl

Yes. The other hens shells are good.

I agree, cannot be sure of internal laying at all, which is why I wanted to see if others here have some info.

I'm going to do the Calcium pill tomorrow.

That is really hopeful! Well done Chirk!!

I have never been sick a day in my life, I have been exposed to a lot having raised kids and worked in the medical industry. I trust my natural immunity over anything else.

I worked in the medical industry for 40 some years.

I feel this gave me an immunity out of this world and I trust it.

I don't get sick hardly at all.
