Shadrach's Ex Battery and Rescued chickens thread.

Two hours today; buses acting up again.
Mostly grey, slightly damp feeling at 7C.

I couldn't stand it any longer and made a portable fence from a large broken dog cage, set it up about halfway in the allotment run and let the geese out. I cleared the pieces of wood from the plastic pond, got the rubbish out and some pieces of netting and the geese made straight for it.
I'll be able to let them out most days now. They're very good with me I must say. Easier to move from place to place than the chickens. The white one still swears at me a lot.:D

Yeah I know, I said I wasn't going to get involved with the geese.View attachment 3745233

The tribe seems fine. Henry and Dig are still alive and Dig hasn't got any new peck marks on his comb.
Everybody got out for the duration.

I thought the geese were scheduled for Christmas dinner?

I'm glad, for their sake, that it didn't happen.

Hannah in the nesting box. She was Joel's favorite gal, they would roost together every night. She's been subdued since he died, but I think she's adjusting to the changes.

Two hours today. It stayed dry. Okay in the sunshine but 5C worth of chilly in the shade.

Picture says it all. I wonder what Mow thinks of this.

Everyone got fed. The geese got a couple of hours out of their run.
Getting a bit of an egg build up. I'll have a couple for breakfast.

In the 2nd and 3rd photo it looks like Henry is complaining to you about Dig's antics :lau

What I won't to know is what is Carbon looking for in picture number 3.:D
Picture says it all. I wonder what Mow thinks of this.
Carbon is just making sure he is still fully functional after the tussle.. :p I think the last picture answers what she thinks of the family drama, she is on her own roost as opposed to roosting with brother or dad. 🥺

Goldie and Spud had much the same behaviour today, I think it is the spring hormones. :rantThe funny thing is, Pip, a few minutes later, squared off on Spud and Goldie broke it up and chased Pip off. There were no injuries, and they all calmed down and went back to eating and flirting with the girls.

I kind of think that Spud, becoming more popular with some of the ladies, has him feeling a bit "Big for his britches.." and he may be pushing for a move up the ladder, which is why the conflicts, but Goldie feels that he or Blue are the only ones with the right to take Spud down a peg. Blue only gets involved if their are girls in the way of their shenanigans.

The third to reach 27 wks today is Skomer, who doesn't lay eggs :D but is stepping into his role as 3rd in command nicely

He looks very like Fforest; in fact, I now have to pay close attention to their combs and shank colour to tell them apart. Killay may be the dom, but Fforest has been much more successful in the mating game to date
