Shadrach's Ex Battery and Rescued chickens thread.

Brought home a new batch of birds today. 7 boys for eating and 3 hens for more eggs. My mother in law really wanted her own chickens but they wouldn't have a good life in town. Too many mischievous kids and critters.

I was told the big barred boys are cream legbar. They really are gorgeous birds in person.
The all black girl has bumblefoot but I couldn't pass up a fibromelanistic hen!
I have read that you can use Prid Drawing salve for the bumble foot to draw out the core. https://www.walmart.com/ip/Smile-s-...4?classType=REGULAR&athbdg=L1100&from=/search

@fuzzi you all alright where you are in NC?
Yes, thank you for asking. I'm east of the devastation, we just got a lot of rain, and it was breezy.

Do keep the victims in the disaster areas in your prayers, or thoughts. The news isn't telling the half of it, as a lot of people have died, many more have had their homes destroyed. 😢

I thought of you immediately, when I heard how bad it got up there, I am glad you and yours are safe! We got hit with a lot of wind and rain, trees down on power lines, etc, we have some damage at ours, but we can't complain, we got so lucky compared to WNC. It is heartbreaking.

All my birds made it through. It was a little hairy with the 75+ MPH wind gusts and I did not sleep for 2 full days, ready to run and rescue them if something happened but our chicken and turkey structures held up well.

I happen to have a tin of that! I will definitely try it next bandage change. I didn't mess with the scab tonight, sprayed it down with Banixx, applied triple antibiotic (no pain relief kind) and wrapped. I mostly wanted to practice wrapping the foot.
Nocturne was a good sport and earned pumpkin seeds for her cooperation.

She had to check my wrapping job but apparently approved. She's a big sweetie pie.
