One and a half hours hours yesterday. I took half a dozen eggs home!
Tull has been investigating the nest boxes so she's getting ready to lay and Henry knows it.
I had people round for dinner last night. I ran out of plates.
Tasted great but the cheese sank. Tin was too big for the contents.
Here is a picture of my corgi, Beanie and Roo. Roo was dropped off in the middle of a cold, snowy winter night on a stone wall by my house. I never found out who did it, even though I went door to door asking. He was injured on one leg and was crippled for the rest of his life. It looked like a weasel attack. He went on to father many children! Here is a photo of some of them. I loved him! He was feisty but because of his limp, he couldn't do too much damage! I still can't get over that someone would just abandon a living creature like that. I was really upset and did NOT want a rooster! I incorporate his story into my Mabel books and Roo plays a big role.
God knew I needed to have some baby chicks and so brought him! Sometimes what we don't want is what we need! Watching Raven, my broody hen sit on the eggs and hatch them and then go on to be an amazing mother, was a wonderful experience. Raven is still living and is 8 years old and still gets broody! All chickens are at my daughter's house now but I still love all things chicken!
The single gray rooster and group of young chickens are Roo's kids. Also, one of them hatching and when they had just hatched. There is a pic of Raven with her chicks. She is now fully feathered and beautiful but was scruffy during that time.
The group picture is of my first chickens I raised.
Yup. The shed never stood a chance. Wrong shed for the wrong reasons in the wrong place. Glad to see it gone/going. Of course the person who put it up has left the field group and what you see and more we will have to clean up!
A bit over an hour out and about today. I was late, bus problems.
Had a bit of a discussion with the group treasurer about how we are going to tackle the removal of the damaged shed and two greenhouses. There is also the matter of extending the coop run for which I now have some of the materials but none of the energy to much with them.
Chickens all seem happy enough. More time out would be appreciated I have no doubt and I think that should improve over the next few days.
I've been given a dinner challenge by one of my dinner guests who has two daughters, both vegans. I know them both and the challenge is to cook them a vegan dinner. I'm not a fan of the whole vegan idea and defintely not a fan of vegan food. However, I'm up for the challenge.
For inpiration:
I made a vegan soup yesterday that tasted really great. With very nice bread and fresh butter its a great meal if you serve a tasty salad as a starter and a desert after the soup.
