Shadrach's Ex Battery and Rescued chickens thread.

@Shadrach
Agathae insists on blaming me, but I found her reading through your Catalonia posts on BYC.

One of the things I probably should have done when I joined BYC (I had read it for a few years before joining) was start my own thread. I've got stuff spread all over the site and mostly I don't know where.:D

Fluffy Butt Acres has pretty much everything that I remember reading from you on it.

I still tell people to watch a chicken lay a egg once.

I managed to get some of the crud at the back of one of Mow's feet off today. It took over an hour, out in the open, in the freezing cold, not really having an emergency option. Mow was very good although I know I hurt her a couple of times. She's going to lose her back toe. At some point she had cut the toe but the scales had grown over the cut and it wasn't until that area was exposed today with the removal of the crud that I could see the problem.:( Short of hands etc so no pictures which is unfortunate.
The toe is that badly severed that there is less than a quarter of what was holding toe to foot. It will come off on it's own in time. I need to have a better look from another angle to see if cutting what remains away is best.

The limitations of what I can and can't do with the field chickens was clear at the outset. I still find it distressing when I know that in circumstances that I had in Catalonia and on the farm, I could do a lot more.

I don't like this at all. The older I get the more disgusted I am about the lot of the field chickens.

Anyway, we all got out. Henry came over and had a look at what I was doing to his daughter Mow. He said something to her, she siad something back and Henry wwent to keep an eye on Tull and Sylph. Oh arr, it seems Henry and Sylph are best friends again.:p

Tull had just chased it away from one of the trays and it hopped onto the chair. Tull went up after it.:D
