I think Henry would enjoy celebrating 70 years young with you: just don't let things derail to the point of your drinking his rooster booster and his drinking a whiskey. To such goings on, Henry may say Nah and wisely choose to stay home with the hens

I have no idea how I made it and a few probably lost some money on betting I wouldn't. What is Bucket Boy on about now?
At midnight UK time, I became 70 years old. The first one and a half hours of being 70 haven't been that bad.
I won't be doing the chickens tomorrow. J has kindly offered to go and do a couple of hours with them, clean them out feed and water them.
The family members I'm interested in, I have urged to dial the party bit right back and a few of us are going to see the Wildlife Photographer Of The Year exhibition being held at The Bristol Museum. It's quite a place.

I was talking to Henry. Due to the uncertainty about his exact age, I told him he could share my birthday and be 70 as well. Not quite sure how he took that.

Under better circumstances I would have invited him and his hens around to my place for the day. Henry could drink rooster booster and I could have a couple of whiskeys and after, we could go down the city and see what sort of trouble we could get into; last man standing sort of thing.

While I love seeing my family, well this bit of it at least, I'm not big on parties and it seems churlish to point blank refuse to have anything with any celebrations. I just hope nobody has spent money on things I don't need or want by the way of a present.

Recipe for an Irish whiskey cake:
Ingredients list

Fore the cake:
grated zest and juice of 1 orange
5-6 tbsp whiskey
200g sultanas
200g butter, at room temperature
200g dark brown caster sugar
3 eggs, beaten
250g flour
2 tsp baking powder
pinch of salt

For the glaze:
100g icing sugar
2½ tbsp whiskey
½ tbsp vanilla extract

Ierse whiskey cake​

Meng de geraspte schil van de sinaasappel, het sinaasappelsap, drie eetlepels whiskey en de rozijnen in een schaaltje. Schep om en laat een paar uur, maar liever nog een nacht, afgedekt staan.

Verwarm de oven voor op 180 °C. Vet een cakeblik met een inhoud van anderhalve liter in, knip een strook bakpapier dat op de bodem past en laat de randen overhangen. Zo tilt u de cake er straks makkelijk uit.

Klop de roomboter en de suiker tot het mengsel licht en luchtig is, voeg in delen de losgeklopte eieren toe, telkens het beslag doorkloppend tot alle ei is opgenomen. Zeef de bloem, het bakpoeder en zout erboven en spatel door het beslag. Meng dan de rozijnen en de overgebleven vloeistof uit het schaaltje erdoor.

Giet het beslag in het cakeblik en bak de cake in 60 tot 75 minuten gaar, de baktijd is afhankelijk van hoe vochtig het beslag is. Check de cake na 20 tot 30 minuten; wordt hij al snel te donker, dek de bovenkant dan af met een velletje aluminiumfolie. Controleer of de cake gaar is door er een satéprikker in te steken: komt die er net droog uit, dan is hij goed.

Prik met diezelfde prikker overal gaten in de bovenkant van de cake. Druppel wanneer de cake nog warm is en in de vorm zit, de rest van de whiskey erover en laat die zo’n twintig minuten intrekken. Til de cake aan het bakpapier uit de vorm en laat hem helemaal afkoelen.

Maak het glazuur. Roer de poedersuiker met de whiskey en het vanille-extract tot een dikkig papje. Giet dat over de cake en laat het mooi opdrogen.

Thank you; this is really great info! I’d already idly thought about latches for open and close, but thought I was being silly. I’m glad to know I wasn’t overdoing it!

I'm not in WNC, but I installed hasps that swivel, like a latch. I added carabiners because raccoons are smart little varmints.
