Shadrach's Ex Battery and Rescued chickens thread.

I started to water the cherry trees this evening. The early cherries are getting red but are so tiny bc it was dry for too long.
Tomorrow the fruit bushes get some water on their roots.

A blackberry-gooseberry cross that gives very dark red tasty fruit in August/September.

I rarely eat meat. If I buy meat its organic cow or frozen wild fish. Not pig or chicken.

I can't believe I'm about to suggest anyone tries out a mobile phone application program but...
I got told about an application called Yuka. You scan the bar code of the product and the application rates the "healthyness" of that product. It's sort of okay at doing this but it's not very sophisticated. What it does do however is suggest healthier alternatives and one can search various shops on the internet to find a local supplier.
I read the product labels but I still get caught out and having alternatives is I found quite helpfull.

On the picture front I deeply regret having to write that practicality has over ruled my dislike of mobile phones. Thanks to @notabitail I have a new mobile phone on it's way. I went for the Google Pixel 8a, which I found for a third off, mainly on the strength of it's camera and image manipulation.

It's half the weight of my current brick.:D Whether it does what it says on the tin I shall find out.

Looking forward to seeing the pictures!
I don’t eat meat very often. I do eat a fair bit of fish and dairy however.
I try and buy meat from local farms but I have just fallen out of the habit and can’t remember the last time I ate beef.

Four hours today. A lovely afternoon. The air was fresher due to yesterdays rain and the sun shone all afternoon.

At the bottom of the plot in the picture below is what I make for plant protection. I've made a few now. They're made from chicken wire and bamboo/cane. Easy to make and they last and perform better than the shop bought stuff people here buy.

I love yuka. I don't always agree with it (it freaks out if you eat sodium or sugar or anything calorically dense) but it's very good as a risk assessment of ingredients.

Good choice on the pixel! If you hate google as much as I do, it's not that difficult to de-google one, but it's best if it's the first thing you do when you set it up. That's how I did it with my pixel 8 (set it up with graphene OS) and it's great. It really isn't hard if you a) own a computer and b) follow a guide. If you'd like to discuss it more in a place that isn't this thread, I'm open to it :)

There is a guy on the internet who sells de-googled phones. I got one from him a few years ago cause I am not tech savvy. I can’t remember what version of the Pixel it was but it did take pretty good pictures.

I don't consider myself very tech savvy, but I am a youngish college student and that does necessitate a working knowledge of phones and computers. Having said that, I found flashing graphene OS to be very easy with the instructions: https://grapheneos.org/install/web
It seems wordy and complicated, but it's not that bad when you get down to it

Tax: two very pretty hens and a background chicken that doesn't look quite right...

I'm not a fan of Google, but I'm not a fan of any of the others either. I read the hype on DuckDuckGo for example and gave it a try and a bit of reasearch. It's leaky and it seems some information still gets passed to third parties. I'll have alook for a guide on how to get it off the phone and if I run into problems I'll send you a PM if I may.
