Shadrach's Ex Battery and Rescued chickens thread.

I don't consider myself very tech savvy, but I am a youngish college student and that does necessitate a working knowledge of phones and computers. Having said that, I found flashing graphene OS to be very easy with the instructions: https://grapheneos.org/install/web
It seems wordy and complicated, but it's not that bad when you get down to it

Tax: two very pretty hens and a background chicken that doesn't look quite right...

My husband works with computers so he kind of explained it to me enough so that I wouldn’t go poking around and ruin it lol. Sometimes I think he just gets sick of messing with stuff so when it came time to get new phones he figured it was two birds with one stone. And one less thing for him to do. If someone is motivated to do it themselves more power to them but I have zero interest in computers and try to purge them from my life whenever I can. Except for BYC of course 😆
Edited to say: It’s easy for me to opt out because he tells me what to use and how so I don’t put any thought into it. Not everyone has that luxury.

On the picture front I deeply regret having to write that practicality has over ruled my dislike of mobile phones. Thanks to @notabitail I have a new mobile phone on it's way. I went for the Google Pixel 8a, which I found for a third off, mainly on the strength of it's camera and image manipulation.

It's half the weight of my current brick.:D Whether it does what it says on the tin I shall find out.
Which brick did you have?

I'm not a fan of Google, but I'm not a fan of any of the others either. I read the hype on DuckDuckGo for example and gave it a try and a bit of reasearch. It's leaky and it seems some information still gets passed to third parties. I'll have alook for a guide on how to get it off the phone and if I run into problems I'll send you a PM if I may.
DuckDuckGo gives irrelevant results too. It shows stuff for things in El Paso (place where I live) that are completely irrelevant for my search terms.

I love yuka. I don't always agree with it (it freaks out if you eat sodium or sugar or anything calorically dense) but it's very good as a risk assessment of ingredients.

Good choice on the pixel! If you hate google as much as I do, it's not that difficult to de-google one, but it's best if it's the first thing you do when you set it up. That's how I did it with my pixel 8 (set it up with graphene OS) and it's great. It really isn't hard if you a) own a computer and b) follow a guide. If you'd like to discuss it more in a place that isn't this thread, I'm open to it :)
My Mom has a "degoogled" of sorts Pixel 6a. It has Graphene but I've installed the Google Camera and Play Store with their networking abilities disabled. I've found the Graphene camera isn't nearly as easy to use as the Google one.

I use LineageOS with the Google stuff on my phone though.

Isn’t it Yucca?
Yuka doesnt exist in the App store.

Yucca is free but does gather info in relation to your id. So if you use it, do some random food checks too if you dont want them to gather too much personal info.
It is in my play store

I check BYC on my mobile phone during the day. It's got to be a bit of a habit.:hmm I don't post unless I'm on one of my computers at the flat.
Got back from the field late, ate and crashed. :old
I am early twenties and BYC is definitely a computer thing, not a mobile thing. I have heard some things about a BYC app, but couldn't find it. Until then posting stuff on mobile is such a bother.

Tax: My 2 new broiler pullets that will be able to free range and die of old age hopefully

I have the BYC website open in a browser on my mobile most of the time. Often in the background.
I don’t mind typing on my mobile with spelling correction. I often combine it with watching TV like now (Eurovision Songfestival)

The laptop with a second large screen is more a work thing for me.

PS the app doesn’t work on my Iphone /in the Netherlands.

I'm on the app right now! It's alright, kind of strange but I'm used to it
