The new phone arrived.:lau It wouldn't last a week as is.:gig
Had to get some armour for it. This camera better be good the bloody thing is costing me money!:p
I've read a bit about GrapheneOS. The two things, apart from making phone calls of course which I believe this model still can, are picture quality and sound management and it is these two areas it seems from what I've read, Graphene fails in.

I'm going to see what the Google system does and what I can stop it doing and then try GrapheneOS and find out if there is a noticable difference. I know I can sandbox reasonably easily all the google stuff. What I don't know is how well/complicated it is to makr the sandbox work seamlessly with the phone.

A further point is am I really concerened about my data. For ten years in Catalonia I was untracable, no phone, someone elses internet used for BYC mainly, no credit or debit cards. Here it's virtually impossible not to be giving data to some concern or other and as for being untracable, forget it. There are cameras everywhere in Bristol, and most cities in the UK. I shop on line.
I use Whats crap to communicte with some of my family and the people at the field. I text people. The list is endless...
Does one more "leak" make any difference? Probably not in my view. I know, I know, it's the principle, but I think we're a bit late on that one.

Nice clear and concise statement of the current thinking, based on "archaeological occurrences and the domestic status of chickens from ∼600 sites in 89 countries [were assessed] by combining zoogeographic, morphological, osteometric, stratigraphic, contextual, iconographic, and textual data" :

"Our results suggest that the first unambiguous domestic chicken bones are found at Neolithic Ban Non Wat in central Thailand dated to ∼1650 to 1250 BCE, and that chickens were not domesticated in the Indian Subcontinent. Chickens did not arrive in Central China, South Asia, or Mesopotamia until the late second millennium BCE, and in Ethiopia and Mediterranean Europe by ∼800 BCE." Peters et. al. The biocultural origins and dispersal of domestic chickens PNAS 2022 open access https://doi.org/10.1073/pnas.2121978119 (which is the paper summarised in the Science Org article that @thistlewick linked to above).

I also note from the same paper that "Within the native range of red junglefowl, many Southeast Asian languages refer to chickens as “bamboo fowl,” given how readily they take advantage of cyclical bamboo mass flowering and seeding events", and the Chatsworth birds are depicted by what is clearly bamboo stems.
The chickens loved the bamboo in Catalonia and the cane. we're not allowed to plant it at the field which is understandable for the creeping vatieties but not the clumping sort which can be controlled.
