Look who’s getting her wattles in! They really only started getting visible two weeks ago,

by contrast, a cockerel will usually start showing much earlier - this is Wig at 5 weeks and barely started growing his juvenile plumage

Just had quite the surprise!

I’m sitting in the run in hopes that they will learn to relax around me a bit more, especially Lil the EE, who puts the flight in “flighty.”

So I’m reading my phone, shooing them back when they try to peck at the functionless buttons on the hems of my shorts, when Lil decides to take a big taste of my knee. I loudly yell Hey!! without thinking and reach over to tap her on the top of her head, and she squatted for me!

I’ve never seen that before, just read about it, but there she was, hunkered down with wings slightly spread, and Assuming The Position. She stayed in this position for several minutes while I first gently pressed her back with the flat of my hand and then stroked her.

What does this mean? Am I to consider this an honor? Does this mean that my voice sounds like that of a rooster? (If so, bad luck, because the last concert is tomorrow night, and I’ll have to work on my voice quite a bit more.)

From what I understand, we humans are Roosters to chickens - in that we lay outside the pecking order and are "the boss".

So, she expected you to mate her and you petting her back is kinda... it! Did she ruffle her feathers after you were done?

Yep, she ruffled her feathers and all! I vaguely thought that I needed to offer a cigarette or so, which would be tricky since I don’t smoke.
