Shadrach's Ex Battery and Rescued chickens thread.

Ok, now I have to write a mystery titled “Babies on the Mind and Mystery in her Heart”!!! ❤️❤️❤️
Sounds fun!

4 babies are out! She has been peeling the shell from a 5th egg and I didn't get a good look at the sixth. She trusted me to get the empty shells out.
You got this, NavyBeans. You are 1/4 silkie and 100% velociraptor.

Congratulations to NavyBeans, and to you! Gorgeous little danger nuggets :love :love :love.

Will any of the chicks join the free rangers? Broody raised chicks would make a fine addition to the group

I just love so much a noob saying “No, you’re wrong” to her. I thought she was quite gentle in her reply.
What got published was about the fifth draft! I did not start off gently. What I wanted to write is 'go check my profile details and you will find that I have a bachelor's degree in environmental chemistry, you doofus!'. And I used to brew wine. That being said, I get points for restraint!

I see we're sharing baby pictures...

This is Savannah, Fabio's youngest daughter, hatched and raised by my favorite hen, Astrid.

This is Fabio looking over the last batch of chicks he would get to meet in his life. I lost him a few months ago at 7 years old. I miss the pisser.

The chicks Savannah hatched are ermine Ameraucanas. I'm going to have some fun next year selling hatching eggs.

These are some of Savannah's kids today.

I'm finally getting back to myself after many years of tough times. One of the biggest signs that I'm recovering is that I'm finally finishing my house. Two weeks ago, I installed the brand new mini split that has been sitting in my garage for almost 8 years!

Yee ha! Off I go.

I'll have nothing but muffs and beards going forward with the Ameraucanas. I never cared for the fifth toes and feathered legs though. Fabio broke one of his fifth toes and I had to routinely spray his legs for SLM prevention due to the heavy feathering.

Haha, that’s great! At age 70, I’m getting my BSc in environmental sciences/ ecology, and getting through the required chemistry is definitely A Thing. Your restraint is admirable.

RIP, Fabio. He was a handsome dude.

Four hours today. Cloudy, humid but stayed dry.
It was feast day today for Mow and Sylph. The young ants left their nests today; they come out with wings. It's all over in a couple of days. There were thousands of them all over the field. I don't think Mow and Sylph stopped eating the entire time they were out.

This is what they look like.

I've harvested 12 courgettes to date. Two more today and lots looking promising on the plants. I got sixty something courgettes last year from three plants. I planted late last year and have this year.

Can't believe Mow still wanted to eat.
