Shadrach's Ex Battery and Rescued chickens thread.

I hope they can as well. Big shoes to fill, I’m sure.

Same here, when we (the group and I) lost our much younger, almost five year old head male. Can’t imagine what it would have been like for the hens if they were together for even longer. :hugs

The remaining senior hens have yet to recover from his loss. His offspring were quite the pair, and worked relatively well together. There was peace, but the group’s loss was still fresh. The peace was lost when the head rooster position got taken by a three year old male, that joined this group after his hens died. I rather not go into detail in this thread, (due to how long the post will be, for starters) unless Shad says that it’s ok
It's fine if you want to post here.:)

That Sylph is one gorgeous hen. You're lucky an ocean separates us or you might find her missing one day and appearing in my chicken photo flock shoots.
She's a precocious brat. Honestly, you wouldn't want her.:p

Just one of the many sad things about the Red Sex Link Ex Battery hens is I thought most of them looked lovely.
The Golden Comet Red Sex Link easily competes with the Buff Orpington for cuddly.

Two and a half hours. Rather cloudy but warm enough at 21C.

This last batch of onions haven't done as well as those I planted earlier. One the other hand small onions do well when cooking for one.

I just made Steve very tasty zucchini fritters for dinner.
We had taco’s filled with courgette and other veggies for dinner.

The mother is a bantam sussex. The chicks are from adopted eggs and something completely different.

Thanks Perris.

You knew about my DH having Alzheimer's and me taking care of him while still working. He died in Feb 2024. You'd think knowing that the inevitable was coming it wouldn't have been so hard. It was the biggest kick in the face I've ever had in my life. And it happened less than a year after my mother died. And then there was the spinal surgery I had almost exactly one year ago to date. Sometimes, life sucks.

As of late the most thought about topics in my head are going to be construction related so let 'er rip!
I am so sorry for your loss. Your last year sounds a bit like mine. Unfortunately, there are some losses that you never really get over, but you eventually find yourself getting on with living, I am glad you are getting to that point. :hugs
