Shadrach's Ex Battery and Rescued chickens thread.

When a broody comes off the nest to eat and poop and looks all normal, and then The Fluff:

Two and a half hours today. 26C and dry with a decent breeze.
Guess who trod on the edge of the tray.

I've been watering this fruit bush which they haven't bothered with much until the last couple of days.

A sit down in one of the greenish patches of grass.

This was apparently a better keeping cool option.

Today's harvest and barter. Tomatoes for two small courgettes. Plums from the orchard. Pears from the orchard. They're a bit unripe still but it's a question of getting them before the bugs. Last of my potatoes and one courgette.

I was working in the gardens late this afternoon, and decided to cool off and take a rest in the coop. I was there to see Rahab getting her brood up on the roost. Green is still having some issues, he's a bit of a Baby Huey.
He did eventually get therd.

Awww… he looks like me trying to get up the front steps of my church!

Apparently people in 1923 had much stronger legs and knees than now. - and also, didn’t need air conditioning or restrooms!

Also keeping cool today was one of my neighbor’s hens, who found a nice shady spot on a paver and put it in park for a good bit:

During which, my bantam rooster made enthusiastic overtures, but she effectively shut down whatever he had in mind by ignoring all his attempts at light conversation.

There's an outhouse out back.
When I was a kid several local relatives only had outhouses

Yep!

There are two… historical restrooms at the back of the sanctuary. Over time, more have been added here, there, and elsewhere, but the church and the added education building are on multiple levels, with stairways straight outta Fawlty Towers, the John Cleese TV series with multiple staircases inexplicably changing directions every five steps or so. There’s one lift in the most inconvenient spot possible, taking an eternity to travel every half floor. (Yes, we have half floors/ storeys.)

As Chair of the Building and Grounds Committee, this is somehow my problem. 🧐🤨🤔😕
