I got given a traditional cold remedy by the mother of my son in law; they're Polish. Onion, garlic and horseradish blended in warm water.

That might actually do something. Lots of tasty foods have health benefits, garlic being an excellent example.

...My mom makes a herring salad with sour cream and beets that's the stuff of nightmares. The beets make it pink. I lost count of guests (especially those from the US) who've taken a bite expecting fruity ambrosia salad...to be greeted with a mouthful of fish and onions.

I would need a double single malt before and after to get the ghastly concoction down my neck. One couldn't say if it was the whiskey or the brew that was responsible for any perceived improvements after that mix.

Took two cockerels off the roost this evening, secured them in a basket. Tomorrow they're headed for their new home. The third one is staying, as long as he and Zaccheus get along.

Observation...as I walked up to the roost (wearing my red LED headlamp) I noticed that Zaccheus was on one end of the roost, with cockerels next to him on either side. If he'd been mean to them I doubt they'd be almost snuggled up to him.
