sorry, can't resist:

🤣 I love Michael ! Let's bring into the conversation that American English drops some letters from words, one of our favourites is aluminium v aluminum and mostly to just be contrary... šŸ˜‰ If I want to bring out the die-hard cockney in the Egg Thief, I just ask him, "Where is the Aluuuuuuuuuminum foil." It is 'ours of entertainment.

Not quite the berry maze C had envisioned but the goose run is clean and half a dozen fruit bushes got planted.
I meant to ask, what did they plant (if you know)?

I have squinted at the (written out) word aluminum and tried to figure out where that fifth syllable came from. ah-LOOM-ih-num. ah-lyoo-MIN-ih-um? How does that happen??

- oh. That's how the British spell it. OK, carry on.

I sometimes use both. If you do it in the same sentence it's even better.

and the rest of the world, notably, the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC), which recognizes aluminium as the standard, but aluminum as an alternative in the U.S. and Canada.

That's because it apparently sounded more posh, matching sodium and potassium.

But originally discoverer Sir Humphry Davy initially used yet other versions (alumium and alumine), but spelled it "aluminum" in 1812. The American Chemical Society made "aluminum" official in 1925. It wasn't until 1990 that IUPAC locked down "aluminium."

that chicken on the far right looks awesome
The black one? She's an awful example of her breed and had such a rough start I wouldn't be surprised if she never lays well or at all. She's a survivor though and absolutely no trouble - kind of a background bird without being a pushover with the others, good forager and not at all bothered by bad weather. I'm hoping she and my Barred Rock pullet will buddy up when the two BR cockerels go back to their breeder this weekend.

There aren't many breeders here and I've just seen that one has decided to sell his flock and plans to switch to Buff Sussex from next year. Really tempted to get in touch and ask if he's already lined up a buyer, just in case I could persuade one of the breeders I know up here to take on a new project if not.
