The brain slows down at minus C temperatures. I think one probably staggers around like a drunk.I like the cold, so long as I'm prepared for it, and I find the wind invigorating. I'd like to know what those temperatures feel like and what it's like to live in those conditions.
Except for -40, because at that temp it doesn't matterCould we please stick to one unit of measurement for temperature. Fahrengrade or Centeheit, I don't really mind which.
Or better still, type those all important capital letters after the numbers, that is, F or C.
I'm still struggling with American. As a non native speaker, some of the vocabulary used here takes me a second to understand. I particularly struggle with abbreviations. Excellent example being “fwiw”. For the longest time, I thought it was some scientific paper thing. The revelation usually comes late at night, when my mind is tired enough to try and guess what they could mean. To the outside world, a very loud “OH” can be heard.
It’s a little comforting to know that sometimes you native speakers don’t get it immediately, albeit much faster![]()
Did she get run over a lot when you did it on the highway?Long ago, when my kids were babies and we lived in Knoxville TN, we had a little starter home. It had a poured concrete patio that was very smooth - the builder hadn’t textured the finish coat.
We would get a fair amount of “black ice” - ice that’s so clear that you can’t see it until too late, so on roads, it just looks damp and black.
During winter when we weren’t sure if there was ice, I’d open the kitchen door and (gently) pitch the cat out with a bit of forward momentum. If she just skidded across the patio and disappeared over the edge, that confirmed it: black ice!
I have an appointment for an assessment for cataract correction later this month. He’s lovely
Can you, and do you want to keep him?
Do you need eyedrops all the time?
My husband didn’t see well either for another reason. He went to the optometrist. And another (better specialist). The last one told him to contact the doctor/ clinic to see if it was a cataract that could be operated . He was the youngest person to get a new les that day (60 a day). Now he has one new lens, and one who is going to be replaced next week.
After 3 days he was already seeing a lot sharper. Even the colors look better.
It’s largely paid by the insurance and it saves him lots of money for contacts in the future.
Good luck.I believe I can keep him from a town laws point of view (I need to double check that).
I had never wanted a rooster because my flock seems very calm and content and I didn't want to disrupt the dynamic.
So when I got day-old checks to put under my perpetually broody hen, Tassels, I purposely got 'all females'. However, there is a big difference between choosing not to get a male chick, and getting rid of one you happen to have.
So he stays for now and I will do my level best to follow all the great advice that @Shadrach and others here have given so he grows into a great rooster.
Wish me luck with that!
For now there is nothing I can do to get to know him because Mama Tassels doesn't really let him wander far from her side and she does not approve of human contact. He will grab blueberries from my hand (as he does from the older hens' beaks) and does see me as some kind of semi-automated treat dispenser.
Tax - Tassels and Mr. Chips together (as always).
