Shadrach's Ex Battery and Rescued chickens thread.

53 minutes after sunset and I currently have four pretty much fully grown pullets asleep in one nest box and a teenager making forlorn goose noises from on top of my head.

How's everyone else's evening going?
just sat down, and it'll be brief. I watched the conifer tree huggers going to roost tonight and there's quite the variety of ways and means they use to get to whichever spot they each prefer. Some have clearly got the chicken equivalent of dexterity and good balance, and some haven't and are more climbing and clinging on by their fingertips

Chicken parkour is always entertaining to watch.

One of the new Rock girls flap-ran up two metres of vertical chicken wire tonight and managed a fairly convincing attempt at staying there to roost, before trying her luck on my head.

3 more boring work hours, then chore time. LOL Just took a break to help walk the dogs. 4 BIG dogs is a bit much for the Egg Thief alone. One bicycle(meals on wheels), motor cycle (fast food) or encroaching cat or fluttering leaf and he would be down and off.

Much like myself then: apart from the species bit.:p
:highfive:

90% of my chicken photos are unusable because they decided to climb onto me, so I had to switch the camera to self-portrait mode but didn't notice myself squinting and gurning away in the background while concentrating on the chicken

Waiting for a wool wash to finish.
I swear by my Merino wool and lambswool clothing. Keeping them clean and something like their original shape is inconvenient though.

They're going to be messing about with time measurement on the last Sunday of this month. I'm just on the outside of the Bristol City rush hour, bearing in mind of course nobodies rushing due to vehicle and pedestrian congestion; unless one counts the retards on the electric scooters weaving on and off the road.

Travel out of Bristol East is going to become more hazardous than usual when it comes to health after the clocks go back. Just me on the bus from the field into the city, 12 standing on the bus on the way out the other side.
It's a shame it happens when the weather turns colder because if it was warm I would just sit in the field talking to the chickens (they still sleep so not really paying attention) until rush rush has died down.

I only ever (occasionally) wash woollen base layers. Anything else - ganseys and the like - gets chucked in the freezer overnight, or draped out over a few washing lines on a cold & dry winter night, no more than a few times a year.

Recalling the recent language chat, there’s a legendary Doric exchange between a shopkeeper and customer:
Customer (enquiring of the material): Oo? (Wool?)
Shopkeeper: Ay oo (Yes, it's made of wool)
Customer: A' oo? (All wool?)
Shopkeeper: Ay, a' oo (Yes, all wool)
Customer: A' ae oo? (All the same wool)
Shopkeeper: Ay a' ae oo (Yes all the same wool)

I've been collecting hair from the Highlands to make into little needlefelted cows. They'll be coo oo coos.
