I was halfway expecting the girls on the roost in the background to hold up scores like gymnastics judges.

I thought they were a bit mean spirited not even acknowledging his effort. I think he put his all into it!

Two and a half hours. No rain!

Sylph is eating more. They went proper foraging today. They're going to need the calories. It's going to get cold overnight and colder still the next few days. A noticeable drop in the wind strength probably helped to get them out.

Jackdaw v Glais standoff. There's a small amount of whole grains on the ground between them. Every time the jackdaw goes to try and eat some, Glais charges it.

I dug a bit and they came into the cage (hopefully to be my fruit bush cage) and dug around in there.

Scraped off a pile of brush. Not much under it.

Jackdaw v Glais standoff. There's a small amount of whole grains on the ground between them. Every time the jackdaw goes to try and eat some, Glais charges it.

Is Glais trying to train the Jackdaw?

Update on the Naked neck rooster:

He disappeared, and I felt bad that he might have been killed. But this afternoon as I was in my backyard I saw my neighbor, the one with chickens. Yes, it was his rooster, and it found its way home, is back in the run safe.

Happy ending.

Thanks for the update! He was on an adventure.

A few years back, probably when our chickens were only about 6 months old, I was at work and received text message from my neighbor.

Apparently all 8 chickens got out of the run (run door wasn't completely latched), lead by Foggy the rooster, marched 2 houses down, and happily digging some yard, until a kid was like:" mommy, why do we have chickens in our yard?"

Our neighbors spent lots of effort herding them back... looking back, I'm thankful no injuries happened at all.

Compare Lulea, coming down from the holly this morning: after navigating branches to get to the nearest arm of the washing line (which happened before I got my camera out) he stepped onto it and walked (tightrope style, with wings for balance as required) to the top

Then he picked his way down the opposite arm, tightrope style again

Until he got the bottom corner, whence he could fly down without risk of entanglement in the washing line wires
