Actually, I think she took a nonstop from Bristol to Asheville and brought her entire family with her.…Mrs Chew A Coop has been back but hasn't chewed. Maybe her dentist has told her to knock it on the head if she wants any teeth left in her old age.

I’m hoping that the run has thawed a bit, because I need to dig up the tunnel(s) before blocking the access to the run tomorrow, so that I don’t trap an entire family of rats in the run.
I had a whole nest under my run a few years ago. I had no clue. I knew there were rats (they were there before we got chickens) but one day I stomped on the ground in the run and it sounded hollow. It was a pain to get rid of but it made me very uptight about leaving food out for sure.
That is very cool - another example of animals being smarter than we give them credit for. I will say, though, that since she's Swiss, she needs a bell around her neck.
No rat problems in the coop (yet) but once in a while I find a rat on the ground that's been dispatched by one of my cats.
